Played soccer today. Twice. The usual deal, first half playing for the reserves and then tha last 20 minutes for the first team. The reserves lost 6-3 thanks to a really shocking 10 minutes where the defense let in 3 goals. Being a striker up front when that sort of thing happens is the most frustrating and helpless thing you can do.
However, all was made up in the first team’s game. They were equal at 2-2 when they brought me on to replace Big Al who was struggling with an injury.
(On a side note, the nickname Big Al is not superfluous, he really is a tank of a man. He’s not fat or chubby, he just has the build of a brick shithouse, so to speak.)
In the last 5 minutes of the game, the best rush I have EVAR experienced occured. In the last five minutes, Mick contrived to get the ball out to me just inside the 18 yard box and I chipped it in. Time seriously slowed down as two defenders swept in and tried to clear it off the line, but it dribbled in.
Ba-BOOM! Man it was incredible. The whole team just going up. Fantastic.
And that’s why I love soccer.
