Growing in numbers

I get the distinctly unpleasant feeling that I am on the verge of becoming sick. To this end I have started taking panadols and not staring at screens too long. Instead I’ve been losing myself rather successfully in the final book in Mark Chadbourn’s Age of Misrule series. It comes with the highest recommendation from me – it contains highly real characters, an imaginitive world (not the usual, ‘change the names, change the scenery’ job that some fantasy authors believe is enough) and a very, very compelling plot. I’ve been lucky lately in the books I’ve been fed – first the ‘His Dark Materials‘ trilogy and now this great series. I think perhaps it’s the fact that things aren’t so black and white and the endings are really not the rainbows and lollipops that a lot of the more popular fantasy writers tag onto the ends…
*cough* Eddings *cough*
And with that accusation, I’m off to rest my cranium for the fight against this killer headache,
Teh P.
