As her face at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale.

So what’s been happening in the world of Phill, eh? Well – and I know you guys had better prepare yourselves for this, it’s of absolutely monumental surprise and exceedingly hard to comprehend unless you’re sitting down, having a smoke and listening to the spanish pianist Marco Beladonte – nothing. I know, I know – I’m practically mummified with shock too.
I suppose nothing is really too all-encompassing to apply to my recent escapades so I think I’ll try and remember things day to day for the past week. I have a faint premonition that this will end in a series of ‘I can’t remember’, ‘Then we sat around’ and ‘I slept’s. Here we go:
Monday:
Well, I already covered this one in my last large rant. Had my early tute and then did the work thing. That was a false start, let’s try again.
Tuesday:
Tuesday is one of my long days. It used to involve me going to two Data Evaluation and Experimental Design classes at 8:00 am and 11:00 am but that changed as soon as I realised that I had already done everything in the course and that a sleep-in was infinitely better than wanting to stab my eyes out in boredom. So now it starts with me going to my Analytical Chemistry 201 laboratory every second week. This week was really great and I enjoyed it a lot more than I usually would. We chucked some aluminium in a couple of solutions we made the previous lab and heated it and damn – does that reaction go. Starts frothing and boiling and going nuts. Best bit about it was that it was self maintaining so we could get it going and then walk away for about 30 minutes while it finished and cooled itself down. The titrations this week were OK – one was a bit of a bitch (clear to a very light turquoise) and one was ridiculously easy (red to bright green) so they averaged out to mediocrity. We also did a couple of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy experiments but they got foiled by the N20 running out halfway through. So we just got given the answers – which was rather scorish. Since that took 6 hours that was pretty much my day.
Wednesday:
Boring day. Early start to get told the answers to the past exams by our pronunciation-challenged tutor. Example: Water is pronounced ‘watah!’ with a definite exclamation. I think she’s French or Hispanic or something but I really can’t tell. Anyway, it’s a constant source of bemusement – not aloof bemusement since she knows she does it and takes the piss out of herself. After that comes my 4 hour break during which this time we left, at the possible expense of our carpark – this is more serious than you may think. Losing a park at carpark 18 is like losing a leg to me. Mainly because the next best park at the times we leave is about 15 minutes in the opposite direction from where we want to be. This week has actually been pretty good for it though – usually I resign myself to the fact that I am going to have to walk the long distance but the two times I’ve come back and had a peek around carpark 18 some random has pulled out and we’ve scored a nice shiny carpark. And traffic lights have been remarkably kind to me lately as well. Maybe I’m appealing to the mechanical god subconsciously.

*EDIT* Ack! Ick! Ock! In the throes of my analysis of my incredible luck with carparks I believe my brain has skipped the utterly fantastic and incredibly delicious meal prepared by Jenni and Sandra for yours truly and a few others. I came at least three times that night as I bit into foods of a quality unheard of in my mouth for nigh-on a few weeks. So a large shout-out to those two and my work buddies.
Thursday:
My other long day. Mainly uninteresting except for the Cell Biology 101 lab which I take. Which just happens to have a rather attractive early 20′s female as the tutor. And you guys all know how much of a sucker I am for that age demographic. The lab itself was pretty…boring. We made a pathetically easy solution and then heated it up and counted bubbles. Yes, bubbles. Again with the first year classes causing me untold æons of grief. Moving along.
Friday:
Yesterday. My very short day that includes a one hour Quantum tutorial at 11:00 am. Then I went home. I wanted to go see a movie and actually called up everyone and a couple wanted to go but then everyone else didn’t want to or had work the next day. I rang everyone that wanted to go back again and cancelled it. Em still said she would go if I felt like it still so we went and saw The Life Aquatic. I thought it was OK – I wasn’t in the mood for a thinking movie so that rather influenced my decision that it was mediocre. Em agreed. Meh, anyway I went home played a couple games of CS and went to bed.

And now here I am on Saturday morning. Looking back it wasn’t that bad a week. And with that, I’m off to work.
Teh P.
