From Auschwitz to Ipswitch

If you haven’t heard it, Jarvis Cocker’s solo album is great. And if you don’t know who Jarvis Cocker is, you should probably look him up.
Neil Gaiman talks about creating fairytales for adults in an essay located here at the Guardian. It’s an interesting article, if only for the quote from Mr. Gaiman to a journalist about the point of fairytales:
“It’s a fairytale,” I told him. “It’s like an ice cream. It’s to make you feel happy when you finish it.”
I liked that. Though I do like stories that make you think, I also like stories that are just straight up stories. Stardust is definitely one of those, and if you’ve seen the movie then I highly suggest reading the book, as it has a few tidbits in it that make it a bit more satisfying (including an oldschool fairytale ending).
If you live in Australia, you may have heard about this road rage incident that occured a week or so ago. I don’t believe it for a second. The term ‘road rage’ to me implies a momentary inability to cope with the another motorist’s inability to drive. It doesn’t mean following someone from a carpark, ramming them six times and driving them off the road and into a phone pole. That is plain old murder. Defendants hiding behind a concept as transparent as ‘road rage’ pisses me right off, especially when they might get a lesser sentence because of it.
I haven’t written any prose for a while now. It’s all been thrown into The Comic. I’ll ask Nick and see if I can’t throw some teasers up on the site somewhere. Stay tuned.

“I had to nurse her on my lap on the way because she wouldn’t get in the car seat – she just screamed and that.”
And that.
