Okkervil River were

okay. It was a Tuesday night, so it didn’t feel like a big one. They performed as I thought they would, and it ended up being a sort of cross between a completely acoustic gig (people sitting around, chatting amongst themselves) and a standard rock gig. Not bad, but not unforgettably good. Don’t take this the wrong way though, I’d recommend seeing them on a better night if they were to come to your home town.

Went and saw Mum last night, she’s looking more rested than I’ve seen her in yonks. Had a good chat and let her know about the house and uni and all that sort of thing. Heh, I think having surgery is a holiday for her. She heads up north afterwards, so I’ll have the run of the house to throw things around while I’m packing up my room. Gonna need a few boxes, methinks. Might grab ‘em off the bro when I head over next.

That Greenhouse thing is working so far. My technique is to revise and edit my poem, throw it up on there, then print out the crit for when I’m a bit more dissociated from the work. Heh, my good friend Aditi threw some solid critique at the first effort, and I got all defensive immediately. So I vowed to have at least a month between revising and revising with crits in hand. That way I don’t embarrass myself and go off at friends who are only trying to help.

University is heating up. I have a trip to Sydney next week (Tuesday! How did that arrive so quickly?) so I’m busy preparing samples for exposure to a pew-pew! neutron beam. Should be fun times, it’s been a couple of years since I’ve been there and I fervently hope they’ve improved the breakfast menu. Still working on computer simulations and there’s been a few encouraging results in the ascertaining of structural information from the diffraction patterns. So it’s kind of all looking up. I just hope that with these new neutron results everything will be hunky dory. Wish me luck, yo.
