Talk about a
busy weekend. Friday night saw me attending the Birds of Tokyo gig at the Burswood Theatre. It was a night I will remember for the powerful performance put on by the band and equally for the swarms of fans that buzzed about to witness that most magnificent of train-wrecks, Britney Spears. It was like some sort of bogan Carnivale; the skirts miniscule, the hair synthetic, the opinions loud and bitchy. I walked behind an arguing couple, one of which was insisting that the other had flirted with another man while they were at the bar. A rolled up poster of Ms. Spears was used to fitting effect as a way of punctuating the accusations of the emotionally injured party. The fans of Birds of Tokyo were easily spotted in the crowd, being the only source of black t-shirts for miles around. I’ve heard that a lot of folks walked out on poor Brits, citing awful seating and no screens to compensate (apparently to counter the obvious miming) as their reasons for doing so. I don’t buy this for a second. I believe that the guilt they experienced on seeing her brazen corpse animate and knowing they played a part in its resurrection caused their bodies to lurch out the exit, sick to their stomachs with the reality of what they had done.
Saturday was spent running around, doing grocery shopping and visiting my Mum to help her shift some wood chips and generally catch up. I don’t get as much time to visit Mum as I want, but it’s nice when I head out to the hills and get to her place to find warm pikelets and percolated coffee waiting for me. Her garden is looking rally amazing now, lots of native plants coming into bloom, my favourite would have to be the pink kangaroo paws she’s got out the front. Who needs roses? That night Louise and I went to a ‘domestic bliss’ themed party which caused the number of times I’ve dressed as a girl for a party to be raised another notch. This time I went with a yellow sun-dress coupled with a red shoulder cardigan, and some beaded jewellery to round it out. Everyone did really well to interpret the theme, including handymen, a guy dressed up as a toilet, lots of robes, and a metallic-golden bathing-suit wearing diva. We had to leave early due to Louise’s back and legs really hurting from standing up for her seven hour shift at Baskins that day, but it was still a really fun night, and I got to have a really good chat to a few of Lou’s friends that I hadn’t yet.
Sunday we got the call from Louise’s Dad saying they were taking the boat out, but it would just be Louise and I, him and his partner Katrina. Which is a hell of a lot more enjoyable that having a bunch of kids running around demanding entertainment and getting upset when they don’t get a go. We used the day to learn a bit more about how to wakeboard (like snowboarding, but on water) and by the end of it Cass (Louise’s sister) had joined us and we had all mastered the getting up bit and had moved on to how to get in and out of wakes. Cass blasted past all of us, mastering a foot switch after going through the wake. I very nearly got there, but my balance just wasn’t up to scratch. But hey, there’s plenty more days in summer. After we got home and had a mid-afternoon nap, I called up Bec and asked what they were up to that evening and got invited to come over for a BBQ dinner, after which we all sat around and had a youtube/misc funny shit night with her laptop hooked up to the TV. Man I love those guys. Despite the aches and pains I woke up with today, I feel healthy. I feel good.

LOL the words ‘brazen animated corpse’ definitely come to mind when Britney Spears is mentioned. Sounds like a fun weekend
@Elena She died in the hairdresser, everything since then has been achieved through clever use of string. :D
